Teaching Philosophy

Education is ever-changing and evolving. As we learn more about ourselves, each other, and our surroundings, we alter our perspectives resulting in the alteration of our teaching strategies.

“If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.”

The quote above, known to be by John Dewey, is a favorite of mine. My personal goal for my future classroom is for students to have a freedom that allows for expression and creativity. Straightforward instruction is still necessary, but there needs to be room for growth where students can learn on their own to better their understanding of what they like and dislike and where their strengths and weaknesses are. This creates the pathway towards uncovering what they are passionate about.

I want to watch my students grow to their full potential. Acknowledging that every student learns and understands differently is a key concept for me and greatly affects the way I will teach. I will challenge students all the while keeping in mind their differences by using inclusive and differentiated teaching strategies. This also enables students to develop together for the betterment of each individual.

We are the voice to let concerns be known and ask questions that need to be asked. Even though our continuously developing perspectives alter the way we teach, the way we teach alters our perspectives. We are the ones to move society forward and initiate change using education as our key.
